This standoff originated from criticisms regarding Harvard's handling of antisemitism on campus during pro-Palestinian protests, leading the Trump administration to initiate a comprehensive review of Harvard's contracts and grants.
The Core of the Conflict:The administration's demands included substantial changes to Harvard's governance, stricter oversight of foreign students, and the dissolution of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. Harvard, however, firmly rejected these demands, leading to a freeze of over $2 billion in crucial research grants and contracts by the administration.
